Primaterra is a full service Arboricultural and Landscape Architectural Design studio located in Mid-City Los Angeles. We have over 20 years of combined experience in arboriculture and design for all types of projects including high-end residential, multi-family, commercial, hospitality and public works. Our collaborations and built work can be seen all around Los Angeles County. In addition to landscape and built work, Primaterra Studio welcomes partnerships with Development and Real Estate ventures and can provide all manners of feasibility, planning and design services. Primaterra has in-house Arboriculture, Landscape Architecture, as well as 3D visualization capabilities. 

Our focus at Primaterra Studio is to create environments and user experiences that are context and site sensitive, yet evoke a modern universality. Inside merges with outside, native landscapes with global garden designs, oriental with western. In an age when all things are possible, responsible design seeks design solutions that fully utilize local and sustainable materials, sources and methods to create beautiful environments that push boundaries and/or evoke memories.  This is what we strive to accomplish at the Studio.

Steven Edwards

Steven Edwards is an ISA Certified Arborist and Registered Landscape Architect in the State of California.  With more than 20 years of experience in various types of landscape architecture and urban design projects, including hospitality, residential, public works and commercial campuses,  his work has helped shape the iconic landscape fabric of Los Angeles.  Steven has combined his knowledge in arboriculture, planning, design and horticulture to provide a unique and thorough "turn-key" approach to landscapes large and small. As Founding Principal of Primaterra Studio, his focus is on efficiently implementing this varied expertise and create truly evocative, contextually appropriate, and environmentally responsible outdoor places.

Steven is a graduate of University of California, Santa Barbara (BFA) as well as a certificate of graduate level work at UCLA Extension. A SoCal native,  he began is professional career in Santa Barbara with Rob Fowler Landscape Architecture and in Los Angeles with Gensler. While at Gruen Associates, Steven spearheaded the Landscape design component of multiple public works projects including the groundbreaking Metro Expo Line in Los Angeles.  He has also crafted the Landscape Design for Santa Monica College, Sony Pictures, Beverly Hills Gateway, and many others. In addition, he has a deep fondness for the city he calls home and dedicates much time to the beautification and preservation of Los Angeles parks and infrastructure, often volunteering time to implement remediation efforts along LA streets and in LA neighborhoods.

When not outside designing or providing arboricultural expertise, he can be found... outside: tending to his drought-tolerant and edible gardens with his three children.
